Monday Musings: Iver Johnson Ad

Hello! I hope you had an enjoyable weekend! Did you get a chance to try any of the duck recipes that I suggested last week? Or do you have a favorite that you want to share?

I enjoyed my weekend, I worked a bit. I like to come in to work on prototypes on the weekend when I am not answering the phone and getting distracted.

Speaking of distractions, this vintage ad came to me in an email. What do you think? I do not know about you but I cannot believe that someone ever thought this was a great advertisement. And I am absolutely sure that if this was published today the social media outrage alone would have sever consequences for this company.

Iver Johnson has an interesting history, the original company started in 1871-1993 and was a firearm, bicycle and motorcycle manufacturing plant. Eventually they stopped manufacturing everything but firearms and were purchased and moved several times. Today, there is a new Iver Johnson, Inc and they are manufacturing guns again, 1911, pump shotguns and magazines.

I hope you have a great week!

Duck Recipes

OK, you have been out hunting ducks this past week and have been incredibly successful. Now what?

Crispy Duck from Nigella Lawson

Of course you could always make seared duck breasts and those are good.
Duck Meatballs from Martha Stewart

But what if you want something different?

Duck Legs with Peaches from Jamie Oliver

I have found several recipes that run the gamut of duck meatballs to duck prosciutto.

What do you think?

Warm Duck Salad from Ina Garden The Barefoot Contessa

Do you see anything here that you would make?
I think I could see myself sitting down with the sandwich and perhaps a bowl of that duck noodle soup!

If you have a recipe or two that is something you make often let me know! I would love to post it here!

In the meantime, be safe as you hunt and enjoy the the 2012 Duck Season!

Shot Gun Shell Wreath

Hey guys!

I hope you had a great weekend! Did you bag any birds? Was it a successful hunt?

Out West Marketing

I was thinking today that as many of us are successful when we are out hunting, and seem to go on the hunt with a bunch of guys that perhaps we should gather up all of our shells and present them to our wife with the perfect gift.

What do you think about these?

All Images from Out West Marketing

I think these are some interesting Christmas decorations. Perhaps they would be good for a little Christmas cheer at the hunt camp?

I hope you have a great day!

Duck Hunting Season in Wisconsin 2012

Duck Hunting in Wisconsin Opened on September 29 and runs through October then is closed for 5 days and will open again Oct 13 through December 2.

According to the Wisconsin DNR if the wet weather continues than this should be a good season for waterfowl.

There are limits for hunting ducks:

"The daily bag limit for the full 60 days is six ducks, not to include more than four mallards of which only one may be a hen, three wood ducks, one black duck, two redheads, four scaup, two pintail, and one canvasback. In addition, the bag limit includes five mergansers to include not more than two hooded mergansers. Coot daily bag is 15." (Info Here)

Will you be out hunting for waterfowl? I have been a few times and I have to be honest it is not my favorite sport. Perhaps because I do not have a retriever dog.If you do take your dog hunting there are so great tips on Waterfowl 360.

I do love to hear from other hunters about what they bag and how they prepare their birds.

American Sacrifice Tops 2000

Saturday marked the 2000 death of an American Soldier since the war in Afghanistan started and this morning another three soldiers lost their lives.

People, these brave men and women are sacrificing their lives for us to enjoy our freedom. Frankly I do not think that the average American even knows that number. Why? Because for the most part this is "the forgotten war."

Please get out there and show your support and lets bring these brave men and women home to their family!
