Deer Hunting Wisconsin 2012 My Trip

Good morning! I know that many of you recently enjoyed the 9 day deer hunting season in Wisconsin, I was curious, how did you do?

Wisconsin DNR

Did you bag a deer? Do you have some good stories to tell about your adventure?

Image Wisconsin DNR

Who did you hunt with? Did you take your son or daughter for the first time or perhaps one of your grandchildren?

Deer hunting is one of the highlights of the year for me because it gives me the opportunity to spend several days with my sons, my friends and just enjoying the Wisconsin wilderness.

Image Wisconsin DNR

As I mentioned, I did not bag a deer this year but I did enjoy the brisk weather, the birds flitting in the trees and singing, and life!

I hope you have a great day!

Wisconsin Deer Season 2012

Let the countdown begin! Wisconsin deer hunting season begins November 17th!

According to the DNR the approximately 10 percent of the state of Wisconsin will be actively participating in this years hunt, with many more providing meals, hotels and entertainment.

Not only that but across the state many areas have had an increase in deer population, due to mild weather and the reduction of anterless deer permits.

That said, not all areas have had an increase, so do not be discouraged. Take the time to enjoy your family and friends, and the tradition of the hunt.

I am looking forward to the hunt and in fact have my new vintage Air Stream camper prepared and all of my gear prepped and ready to load when the time comes.

There is still time to order leather and nylon products before the hunt, belts, flashlight holder, knife holders, etc. Just call me at 414-764-7126 or email me at gary@stallionleather.com.

I hope you have a great day!

Monday Musings: Iver Johnson Ad

Hello! I hope you had an enjoyable weekend! Did you get a chance to try any of the duck recipes that I suggested last week? Or do you have a favorite that you want to share?

I enjoyed my weekend, I worked a bit. I like to come in to work on prototypes on the weekend when I am not answering the phone and getting distracted.

Speaking of distractions, this vintage ad came to me in an email. What do you think? I do not know about you but I cannot believe that someone ever thought this was a great advertisement. And I am absolutely sure that if this was published today the social media outrage alone would have sever consequences for this company.

Iver Johnson has an interesting history, the original company started in 1871-1993 and was a firearm, bicycle and motorcycle manufacturing plant. Eventually they stopped manufacturing everything but firearms and were purchased and moved several times. Today, there is a new Iver Johnson, Inc and they are manufacturing guns again, 1911, pump shotguns and magazines.

I hope you have a great week!

Duck Recipes

OK, you have been out hunting ducks this past week and have been incredibly successful. Now what?

Crispy Duck from Nigella Lawson

Of course you could always make seared duck breasts and those are good.
Duck Meatballs from Martha Stewart

But what if you want something different?

Duck Legs with Peaches from Jamie Oliver

I have found several recipes that run the gamut of duck meatballs to duck prosciutto.

What do you think?

Warm Duck Salad from Ina Garden The Barefoot Contessa

Do you see anything here that you would make?
I think I could see myself sitting down with the sandwich and perhaps a bowl of that duck noodle soup!

If you have a recipe or two that is something you make often let me know! I would love to post it here!

In the meantime, be safe as you hunt and enjoy the the 2012 Duck Season!

As always if you need Stallion Leather nylon or leather duty gear, police gear, parade grear or gear for you hunt give us a call at 414-764-7126.

Hey guys!

I hope you had a great weekend! Did you bag any birds? Was it a successful hunt?

Out West Marketing

I was thinking today that as many of us are successful when we are out hunting, and seem to go on the hunt with a bunch of guys that perhaps we should gather up all of our shells and present them to our wife with the perfect gift.

What do you think about these?

I think these are some interesting Christmas decorations. Perhaps they would be good for a little Christmas cheer at the hunt camp?

I hope you have a great day!

Duck Hunting Season in Wisconsin 2012

Duck Hunting in Wisconsin Opened on September 29 and runs through October then is closed for 5 days and will open again Oct 13 through December 2.

According to the Wisconsin DNR if the wet weather continues than this should be a good season for waterfowl.

There are limits for hunting ducks:

"The daily bag limit for the full 60 days is six ducks, not to include more than four mallards of which only one may be a hen, three wood ducks, one black duck, two redheads, four scaup, two pintail, and one canvasback. In addition, the bag limit includes five mergansers to include not more than two hooded mergansers. Coot daily bag is 15." (Info Here)

Will you be out hunting for waterfowl? I have been a few times and I have to be honest it is not my favorite sport. Perhaps because I do not have a retriever dog.If you do take your dog hunting there are so great tips on Waterfowl 360.

I do love to hear from other hunters about what they bag and how they prepare their birds.

If you are looking for any leather or nylon gear for your hunt please visit our web site at www.stallionleather.com or call me, Gary at 414-764-7126. Stallion Leather is 100% American Made and is happy to help with your leather and nylon gear needs!

American Sacrifice Tops 2000

Saturday marked the 2000 death of an American Soldier since the war in Afghanistan started and this morning another three soldiers lost their lives.

People, these brave men and women are sacrificing their lives for us to enjoy our freedom. Frankly I do not think that the average American even knows that number. Why? Because for the most part this is "the forgotten war."

Please get out there and show your support and lets bring these brave men and women home to their family!

A Thursday Thought

Enjoy your day, enjoy your Freedom! Get out there and thank a soldier, as you walk through the airport, at your local gas station, online, wherever. Do not let these men and women be forgotten, they are fighting for
YOU, ME, US!

Turkey Hunt Update

Hello! How was your weekend? Did you have any luck while out hunting this weekend? We saw a lot of deer and turkey but we did not get anything.

Image NWTF Here

That is OK though because the Black River Falls area of Wisconsin is beautiful and we enjoyed being out in the  woods and the camaraderie of our friends.

I would like to take a minute to say that there are rules and regulations while hunting, and they are put in place for the safety of all people. If you have a permit for bow hunting obviously than you use a bow to hunt and not a gun. While you are out hunting if you see this sort of illegal behavior please report it. This sort of hunting cannot be tolerated, it is dangerous for everyone.

Please contact us if you need any Stallion Leather Gear by clicking this link or calling 414-764-7126.

2013 Wild Turkey, Pheasant and Waterfowl Stamps

Last week the Wisconsin DNR announced the winners of the 2013 Turkey, Pheasant and Waterfowl Stamp design competition.

Artist Craig Fairbert Image from WIsconsin DNR

The stamps which hunters are required to purchase bring additional funds to the management, development and conservation of these birds and their habitat.

I think these look great! My personal favorite is the pheasant, although I will not be doing any pheasant hunting this year.

Are you ready for your hunt this weekend? Make sure to bring your license, stamp and carcass tag and to register your harvested turkey at 1888-HUNT-WIS.

All harvested turkeys must be registered!

Be safe and have fun!

Wisconsin Archery Deer Season Begins September 15th!

I don't know about you but the cooler temperatures to me signals the start of hunting season. After a LONG hot summer I am itching to get out in the woods to do some hunting. As I mentioned a few posts back I am gearing up to hunt turkey and deer this weekend.
I like to hunt in the Black River Falls area of Wisconsin and have been going there for many years. In fact, the people that own the land I hunt on are kind enough to store my tree stand and to set it up and take it down each year. This is a plus because frankly that thing is heavy, not to mention that it is nice just to show up and be prepared to hunt.
Image Here

I like to use the Big Buddy stand, it has a 48 inch platform that fits two people and that way we can cover all of our territory. For safety, we do use a harness while in the stand. One can never be too safe while up in a tree
Image Here

Of course you can always build or purchase a deer blind to be on the ground and out of the elements. I have used both and think they each offer a different perspective and hunt.
Image Here
On this hunting trip because I will be going for both turkey, as well as deer, I will be carrying a gun and a bow. For the deer, I use a traditional Sequoia Longbow with handcrafted arrows, (made by me over the past few months), carried in a leather quiver also handcrafted by me in the shop over a long weekend.
Image Here

And I am taking my Remington 870 Express for turkey.
Image Remington

I also like to be prepared with a first aid kit, a fanny pack with my Thermos of coffee and sandwiches and snacks, a flashlight and Stallion Leather holder, and a knife/multi-tool, and last but not least a phone in case of emergencies. Of course I also have my gear, tags, etc, that goes without saying.
Are you ready for the hunt? What gear do you use?
Be safe this weekend, SAFETY FIRST! There are going to be a lot of hunters so be cautious and careful, and prepared.
Good luck!
If you need any Stallion Leather gear there is still time to order! Remember we sell flashlight holders, phone holders, knife and multi-tool holders and much more. We are not just outfitting the law enforcement and military, we are outfitting sportsmen and women. Be sure to check our webpage for new products!
Contact us at 414-764-7126 or www.stallionleather.com!

FYI Per the Wisconsin DNR: "The 2012 archery deer season runs from Saturday, Sept. 15, through Thursday, Nov. 15 and then from Saturday, Nov. 17, the start of the gun season, through Jan. 6, a Sunday.
Archery deer hunters will again be allowed to hunt during the regular nine-day gun deer hunt in November, and new this year, they will be able to fill a gun license deer tag with a bow or crossbow during the gun deer seasons. During the gun deer season, bow hunters will be required to follow the same blaze orange clothing regulations as gun hunters.
As always, there is be no deer hunting of any kind on the Friday preceding the gun deer hunt. This single day separates the early and late bow deer seasons."

Yesterday I mentioned some of the items I typically take on a turkey hunt. As I mentioned it is by no means a comprehensive list of gear, it is simply a few suggestions.

Today I thought I would share of few photos of me all decked out in my hunting kit!

As you know there is always a lot of waiting while turkey hunting.

But typically the wait is worth it! Success!

I hope you are ready for the hunt! As always, safety first!
