Thanksgiving Thoughts

Good morning! I know that many of you have been out hunting this year and were successful in bagging a turkey but for those of us who were not I have been thinking of alternatives to a a fresh one.

Of course you could purchase a turkey from the grocery story, or from a local farm. You could also share a beautiful ham dinner.

Or maybe even a Maple Roasted Balsamic Duck  ?

And if you were luck enough to get a deer you could make Seared Venision with Cherries and Rosemary.

Leather and Nylon Flashlight Holders for Hunting Season

Good morning!  I do not know know about you but so far I have been enjoying the Fall 2013 hunting season. I have yet to bag anything yet but I still enjoy being out in the beautiful Wisconsin woods.

I have learned many things in all the years that I have been hunting, first and foremost, safety is number one! It is imperative to practice safety while hiking in the woods. And one of the ways I do this is to be sure that I am wearing the correct clothing but also to make sure that I have a fully charged flashlight attached to my belt.

You may think that this is a piece of equipment that is unnecessary or something that you can leave in your truck or in your blind but that is not the case, you need to have it with you while you walk to and from your vehicle to your blind. It will also be invaluable to you should you shoot a prize buck and need to follow the blood trail.

While walking in the woods point the flashlight down but a few feet ahead of you so that you can see fallen longs and other obstructions but also so that the deer do not see your beam

At Stallion Leather we manufacture leather and nylon flashlight holders for almost any light on the market. So if you have a light and need a holder contact me at 414-764-7126 or find us in the following places:

As always, all Stallion Leather products are 100% American Made.

Horicon Marsh: A Wisconsin' Treasure

Fall is officially upon us and for many that means an annual pilgrimage to Horicon Marsh to take in not only the changing leaves, but to see the migration of the Canadian geese.

Image from Wikipedia

Horicon Marsh for those of you who are new to the area or simply have never been is the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the United States. It is located in southeast Wisconsin and is a short and beautiful one hour drive from Milwaukee.

In addition to the flocks of Canadian geese, the march is home to over 300 kids of birds, as well as other wildlife and insects.

The marsh offers visitors the opportunity to bike, hike, hunt, trap, canoe. You can also take in the amazing wildlife and perhaps try your hand at wildlife photography by reserving on the special blinds specifically for this purpose. To reserve a blind simply call, 930-387-7860. The Wisconsin DNR offers free driving, hunting, hiking and visitor maps, click HERE to find them.

I have enjoyed many trip to Horicon Marsh over the years and find myself surprised again and again by the sheer number of geese and people that flock to the area to see them.

We are very lucky to have such a special place in Wisconsin.

I should note that with the government shut down 2/3 of the Marsh is closed, this is the part managed by the Federal government. The past of the Marsh that are managed by the State of Wisconsin are open for visitors.

Welcome Fall and Wisconsin Hunting and Fishing Season

I do not know about you but Fall is like the starting gun for all of the activities that I enjoy, hunting turkey, deer, Fall camping and hiking!

We are very lucky in Wisconsin because we have so many State parks and areas to enjoy all of these activities.

I for one never tire of the changing seasons in Door County, Horicon Marsh, Black River Falls or any of the other countless places that have been on my list of places to see each Fall.

As this has been a particularly dry summer in many areas remember to follow the Fire Safety Regulations so that you do not cause any damage to the area that you are visiting!

As you get ready for your Fall hunts remember to keep Stallion Leather in mind if you need any leather or nylon supplies. We offer 100% American Made holsters, belts, flashlight holders and concealed carry holsters.

Remembering 9-11

It has been twelve years since that fateful day when 2800 innocent people lost their lives while going about their daily life.

Today, please take a minute to remember those men and women, mothers and fathers, sisters, brothers, grandparents, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and loved ones who lost their lives in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.

Then take another moment to remember all of the armed service men and women who are still fighting twelve years later so that we can be free and safe.

Boating Safety

Summer is in full swing, the weather is finally heating up and that normally means going out on the Lakes to swim, or enjoy your boat. I have noticed a number of news stories about boating accidents, involving injuries and sometimes even fatalities and in each and every case the accidents were caused by inattentive drivers or alcohol.

There are many rules to keep you safe but these are the ten most often noted by the Wisconsin DNR. I think they deserve to be repeated.

10 Rules of Boating Safety

1. Always wear an approved Personal Flotation Device (life jacket), including your pets.
2. Avoid excessive speed.
3. Never consume drugs or alcohol before or while
operating a boat.
4. Know your limitations and your boat’s limitations.
5. Don’t sit or allow your passengers to sit on the
gunwales, bow, or seat backs while underway.
6. Don’t overload or overpower your vessel.
7. Follow the rules of navigation.
8. Make sure navigation lights are on during periods of
darkness.
9. Be aware of shallow water areas and submerged
objects prior to going out
10. Be aware of other boats, personal water craft, boats, paddle boards and swimmers.

In Wisconsin we are blessed to have so many beautiful lakes right out our front doors, and they are a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends, either fishing, seeing the sights, swimming or perhaps water skiing. In addition to large water craft there are many of us that love to sail, kayak, canoe, use a paddle board or to swim.

If you are the captain of your vessel you MUST keep your eyes and ears open for smaller crafts, swimmers, and even out of control drivers. If you see someone who is drinking and boating or just driving erratically than report them to the police or Coast Guard.  Remember this, "the life you safe may be your own" or your families.

Remember the water is for everyone, be safe, and be responsible.

Enjoy your Summer!

Celebrating the 4th of July!

"And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star spangled banner yet wave. O're the land of the free and the home of the brave."

~Francis Scott Key

Summer is well and truly underway, tonight is the annual  U.S Bank 3rd of July fireworks, tomorrow the 4th of July and the rest of the week Summerfest 2013. There are so many great ways to celebrate summer and the 4th of July!

I think I may take in the fireworks as well as do a little camping in my Airstream camper and attend a few barbecues.

I hope that whatever your plans that you stay safe and enjoy!

Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.
